YAKIMA, Wash. – A Spokane man was charged with robbery and unlawful firearm possession for allegedly stealing gas and firing a gun into the air at a Yakima gas station on Oct. 24, according to court documents.
Court documents say police were called to a gas station on the 600 block of East Yakima Avenue at 1:43 p.m. for a weapons offence. Officers were told that a man had shot a gun into the air at the station.
Upon arrival, officers found Don Juan Perry, 53, driving away after saying that an issue over gas had been resolved. Workers inside told police that Perry was the one that they had called about.
Perry was eventually pulled over and arrested after eluding police for some time.
Court documents report that Perry came into the store to put $40 on a gas pump, however his card declined. He then said to put $39 on instead but left before swiping his card, then proceeded to allegedly grabbed a gun and shot a single bullet while in the parking lot.
Perry reportedly pointed at the gas pump and told the worker to unlock the pump. The worker complied out of fear of being shot and $30 of gas was given to Perry.
After being detained, Perry insisted that he did not have a gun, however one was found in his car.
Perry is currently being held by the Yakima County Department of Corrections under $75,000 bail. His arraignment is set for Nov. 8.
