OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee (D) activated some members of the Washington National Guard on Friday to be on stand-by as Election Day approaches.
The activation is a precautionary measure following the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s recent warnings regarding threats to election infrastructure and events such as ballot boxes being lit on fire in southwestern Washington.
If needed, the Guard will be used to support local law enforcement and the Washington State Patrol.
Inslee gave The Adjutant General authority to determine how many Guard members will be activated. They will be on stand-by from Mon., Nov. 4 until Thu., Nov. 7.
Inslee’s full letter to The Adjutant General can be found online.
