SEATTLE, Wash. — Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg released a statement following the approval of a new contract by unionized workers, effectively ending their seven-week strike.
Ortberg’s statement reads:
“Team,
We were pleased to reach a ratified agreement with IAM 751 & W24 tonight.
While the past few months have been difficult for all of us, we are all part of the same team. We will only move forward by listening and working together. There is much work ahead to return to the excellence that made Boeing an iconic company.
This is an important time in our history, and like generations before us, we will face this moment together, stronger as one team.”
According to AP News, machinists approved Boeing’s latest proposal with 59% approval earlier today. The vote ended the strike, which began on September 13 and had halted production for nearly two months.
The work stoppage forced Boeing to suspend manufacturing, costing the company an estimated $6 billion in lost revenue over the past quarter.
