Race for Alaska’s only US House seat too early to call

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska voters were deciding a hard-fought race for the state’s only U.S. House seat that could help decide control of that chamber. Tuesday’s election also asked them to decide whether to repeal the state’s system of open primaries and ranked choice general elections. The House race featuring Democratic U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola and Republican Nick Begich was too early to call after initial vote totals were released. Begich was among the opponents Peltola defeated in 2022, when she became the first Alaska Native in Congress. The ballot also included a measure that would raise the state’s minimum wage, and legislative races.
