DETROIT (AP) — It’s still too early to call the race for Michigan’s open Senate seat between Democratic U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin and Republican former congressman Mike Rogers. Slotkin held a slim lead Wednesday afternoon with close to 96% of the vote counted. The GOP hoped Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s retirement would enable them to send a Republican to the Senate from Michigan for the first time in 30 years. Slotkin is a former CIA analyst, and she reminded her supporters that “we’ve had difficult periods in our history before.” She spoke after Senate Democrats lost their slim majority.
