Montana adds 10 newly elected indigenous legislators

MONTANA – Native American communities in Montana have made a significant impact this year with absentee ballot returns reaching 75.5%. This milestone showcases the dedication of these communities to participate in the civic process despite facing various challenges.

Western Native Voice, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Montana, has been instrumental in supporting and encouraging Native community members to engage in civic activities and influence public policies. Their efforts have helped amplify the voices of Native families and communities across the state.

The recent election has also welcomed 12 newly elected Native legislators to the Montana State Legislature. These leaders include:

– Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy from District 16

– Sen. Jacinda Morigeau from District 46

– Rep. Thedis Crowe from District 15

– Rep. Tyson Running Wolf from District 16

– Rep. Frank Smith from District 31

– Rep. Mike Fox from District 32

– Rep. Jade Sottkis from District 41

– Rep. Shelly Fyant from District 91

– Rep. Donavon Hawk from District 72

– Rep. Sidney Fitzpatrick from District 42

These newly elected officials will represent their districts in the upcoming 2025 legislative session.
