SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly using stolen credit cards to make more than $3,800 in fraudulent purchases.
According to court documents, Jordan Smith, 34, has been charged with second-degree theft, second-degree possession of stolen property, and first-degree identity theft. He is accused of using stolen credit cards to buy items at various stores throughout Spokane, including Home Depot, Rite Aid, DICK’S Sporting Goods, and Burlington, between Sept. 28 and 29.
In the documents that were filed on Nov. 4, it said that Smith made fraudulent purchases totaling $3,811.89. The items included tools, prepaid cards, and other merchandise. The investigation began after a victim reported his wallet was stolen from his locker at the YMCA on Sept. 28. The victim said to have used Case’s credit cards to make purchases at multiple locations over the next few days, according to court docs.
Court documents said that surveillance footage and receipts from the stores helped authorities identify Smith as the suspect. Witnesses, including employees at Home Depot, Rite Aid, and DICK’S Sporting Goods, provided details that connected Smith to the fraudulent transactions. Additionally, Smith’s clothing in the surveillance video matched what he was wearing during a traffic stop on Sept. 29, when he was questioned about numerous stolen credit cards found in his car.
Further investigation revealed Smith’s involvement in other thefts. At least five additional thefts from lockers at Spokane-area gyms were reported, with stolen credit cards used in those incidents as well.
On Oct. 30, investigators executed a search warrant at Smith’s home and car. They discovered stolen items, including credit cards, IDs, passports, and a camera that had been reported stolen. Smith was also found in possession of items matching those worn during the fraudulent purchases.
Court docs said that Smith remains in custody while police continue to investigate other possible connections to thefts in the area.
