Washington man impersonates officer, arrested with patrol car and gun

ORONDO, Wash. – Police arrested a man that dressed up like Chelan County Officer and carried a gun around while driving a police patrol car.

On the morning of Nov. 6, Douglas County deputies responded to a vehicle prowl report in Orondo.

An off-duty Chelan County deputy reported finding Francisco J. Medina-Rangel, 35, wearing sheriff’s office clothing and carrying the deputy’s gun.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office investigators discovered that Medina-Rangel had entered multiple vehicles and buildings, including a secured patrol vehicle.

The investigation revealed that Medina-Rangel had accessed areas he was not authorized to enter.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the extent of the unauthorized access and any potential motives.

He was arrested and booked into Chelan County Regional Jail on burglary 1st degree, vehicle prowl 2nd degree (4 counts), theft of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm (2 counts), theft 3rd degree, alien in possession of a firearm (2 counts) and criminal trespass 2nd degree.
