TONASKET, Wash. — An Okanogan County deputy’s patrol car was struck from behind during a crash on Wednesday afternoon, after a driver failed to notice the vehicle with its emergency lights activated.
According to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were responding to a single-car crash around 1 p.m. near Havillah Road when the deputy’s vehicle was hit from behind by another car. The deputy had been investigating the initial crash with their patrol lights on at the time.
Deputies said that the driver responsible for the crash was transported to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries remains unknown.
Washington State Patrol said they are investigating the incident. The driver was cited for driving without a license, lacking insurance, and failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle—a violation of the “Move Over” law.
