PLUMMER, Idaho — The Coeur d’Alene Tribe Air Quality Program issued a temporary burn ban following the recent decline of air quality in the area.
According to the Coeur d’Alene Tribe Department of Natural Resources, their Air Quality Program instituted an immediate temporary burn ban on Nov. 8, 2024 to protect public health and prevent further degradation of air quality. This ban prohibits open burning of yard waste, leaves or other debris, slash piles and recreational campfires and bonfires. This ban applies to anyone on land owned by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.
The program came to this decision after discovering elevated levels of particulate matter in the air. The Air Quality index also reached “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
According to the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, the burn ban will remain in effect until Tuesday November 12 where the ban will be reevaluated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe Air Quality program. Everyone within Coeur d’Alene Tribe property must obey this burn ban and violations may result in fines or other penalties.
