Inmate found dead in cell two hours after court hearing, investigation now underway

SPOKANE, Wash. — Deputies have started an investigation after finding an inmate dead in his cell on Friday afternoon.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), a 36-year-old man died while in custody Friday afternoon. Jail staff found the man on the floor around 3:31 p.m. and aid arrived at 3:42 p.m. Aid later pronounced the man dead around 4 p.m.

According to SCSO, the inmate had just returned from court at 2 p.m., two hours before he was pronounced dead. There were no indications of trauma, and the body is being examined by the Medical Examiner.
