SALEM, Ore.-The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed the first human case of avian influenza linked to an outbreak at a commercial poultry facility in Clackamas County.
Pig in Oregon is first in the nation to test positive for bird flu
“Clackamas County Public Health Division has been closely monitoring people exposed to the animal outbreak, which is how this case was identified,” said Clackamas County Public Health Officer Sarah Present, M.D.
According to the Oregon Health Authority, the person who contracted avian influenza experienced only minor symptoms and has recovered.
OHA officials are not releasing the name of the person who got sick or the poultry facility for privacy reasons.
To reduce the risk of avian influenza people should avoid contact with sick or dead birds or animals, or their droppings or litter, and should not drink or eat unpasteurized or raw dairy products such as milk or cheese.
