SPOKANE, Wash. – SCRAPS will host a free spay and neuter clinic Sunday.
Free vaccines and microchips will be offered to Spokane County dog owners in addition to spay/neutering. Registration information can be found here.
According to the county, SCRAPS and other animal shelters are struggling with an influx of animals.
“Spokane County continues to experience a significant increase in the number of pregnant dogs in our communities. The result is that litters of puppies are dropped off at shelters or abandoned to wander as strays,” the county said in a Saturday statement.
Spay-neuter clinics are one way to reduce the numbers of abandoned animals across the county. The event will last from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Spokane Valley SCRAPS location.
