SPOKANE, Wash. — Residents in the Inland Northwest are getting ready for winter as snow is expected to return. The last snowfall in the region was on April 5, 2024, and locals are preparing for the cold season.
Morgan McGoldrick, a local resident, expressed her excitement for the upcoming snow. “I’m ready for the snow,” she said. Like many in the area, McGoldrick enjoys winter activities and sports.
She was among the thousands who enjoyed the Numerica Skate Ribbon Ice Rink and a stroll in Riverfront Park Saturday afternoon.
Matt Legard shared his enthusiasm for the winter season. “I love winter. Christmas, playing in the snow in my backyard, and who doesn’t love the lights,” he said.
While many are embracing the fun aspects of winter, others are focusing on practical preparations. At the General Store on Division, people are stocking up on snow supplies and materials to winterize their homes.
Mark Nicolle shared his approach to keeping warm. “My apartment is winterized. I put plastic over the windows hold in the heat,” he said.
For those experiencing their first winter in the region, locals have some advice. “If they’re coming from Florida—shop now for clothes and all the supplies you will need,” one resident recommended.
The community is also mindful of those who may not have the resources to prepare for winter.
As the snow approaches, the community’s readiness and spirit of giving are evident across the region. Generosity remains a hallmark of the Inland Northwest, as residents look out for those in need.
“I know a lot of homeless children and women. I will spend my night making them care packages,” a community member mentioned, highlighting efforts to support those without a warm place to sleep.
