OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington Department of Veterans Affairs announced an increase in government spending with veteran owned businesses.

According to Veterans Affairs, Washington agencies increased purchases with veteran owned businesses by 152% in the 2024 Fiscal Year.

Director David Puente argued that the increase in purchases with veteran owned businesses was a win for the Evergreen State’s economy.

“Supporting our state’s Veteran-owned businesses leads to greater community prosperity through job creation and investments in local economies,” Puente said.

There are around 515,000 veterans living in Washington according to state data. Veterans Affairs is in the process of implementing a 2022 Executive Order from Governor Jay Inslee encouraging state agencies to purchase from veteran owned businesses.
