OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee is in the process of handing off his office to Governor-elect Bob Ferguson, including the governor’s mansion.
The incoming governor and his family visited the historic residence last week. Inslee’s office has allocated about $2,750,000 to the transition according to the Washington State Standard.
Ferguson is gearing up to challenge the Trump Administration during its second term, making the months of hiring new staff between November and January particularly critical for his office.
“My Transition Team includes Washingtonians of both parties from every region of the state. I’m excited to work with anyone who shares my passion to improve government, protect Washingtonians’ rights and move our state forward,” Ferguson said via social media Saturday.
He’s joined by a cohort of other Democratic governors who have promised to coordinate organized opposition to President-elect Donald Trump’s policy agenda including California’s Gavin Newsom and Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer.
The governor-elect says he’s also focused on the facing Washington families.
“I’m focused on public safety, housing, and making it more affordable to raise a family in Washington,” Ferguson said.
