AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — A woman was taken into custody after reportedly fleeing police in a stolen car, barricading herself in a building and claiming to have a gun.
According to a spokesperson for the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on Monday when the woman fled from police in the stolen vehicle, prompting a response from multiple agencies, including the Airway Heights Police Department, Spokane County deputies, ambulances and Kalispel Tribal Police.
Police attempted to block the woman’s car, but she drove away, striking at least one car during the pursuit. Deputies said she then fled on foot, claiming to be armed, and eventually entered either her own apartment or that of a friend. SWAT negotiators were called to the scene.
The suspect was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. The exact charges are not yet known, but deputies confirmed that no shots were fired during the incident. The sheriff’s department stated more information will be released on Tuesday.
