SPOKANE, Wash. – Two weeks after Election Day, the Spokane County Elections Office audited the tabulation machine in an effort to finalize and verify results.
The state-wide risk-limiting audit process verifies that each ballot was interpreted the way the voter intended by the tabulation machine.
The Spokane County Elections Office audited the lieutenant gubernatorial race and the legislative District Four state senator race.
“It’s important because we don’t certify the election until Tuesday, November 26. That’s when it’s certified. So, it has the election results for this election, but it also determines validation numbers for the following year,” Mike McLaughlin, the Spokane County Elections Office manager, said.
Moving forward, the office will contact voters who have challenged ballots. Those with challenged ballots have until Monday to address this and get their ballot counted.
