latah creek wineryYou can find wine just about anywhere these days. Restaurants. Diners. Grocery stores. Convenience stores. You can head out to Walla Walla for the weekend and sip fancy (and expensive) wines at dozens of wineries. You can grab a cheap bottle of a white or red and drink in the comfort of your own home.

Wine is readily available these days, and you can find it and drink it just about anywhere. But for those people that appreciate the experience of drinking wine as much as buying it, a diner or a grocery store isn’t going to cut it.

And that is where Latah Creek Winery comes in. Because at Latah Creek Winery it is as much about your experience as it is about the wine (and the wine is amazing).

Head out to the winery (located on East Indiana off I-90 towards Spokane Valley) and you will be transported to a wine-lover’s paradise immediately upon walking through the front door. Because Latah Creek doesn’t have just a simple tasting room. They have an entire gift shop full of glasses, charms, decorations, food items, seasonal items, and more. You can wander around and take it all in (or shop, you can totally shop) before heading up to the counter to start sampling the wines.

The Wine List includes dozens of award-winning whites, blushes, reds, reserve reds, and dessert wines. Huckleberry d’Latah is an exclusive, sweet, white wine that goes great with summer days and light meals (and with shows at The Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox – it’s on their snack bar menu and yet another reason to take in a Spokane Symphony show sometime soon). If you’re in the market for something a little more full-bodied, the ‘15 Malbec has touches of oak, vanilla, and plum, and pairs well with hearty dinners of spicy or game meats. To really treat yourself, you can give Gold Medal-winning Mike’s Reserve Red a try. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Merlot is earthy but floral and is appreciated by connoisseurs and amateur wine lovers alike. Glasses cost from $6-10 depending on the wine, with a tasting fee of $5 if you want to just sample (and the tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle of wine). Those full bottles are also very affordable, ranging from $10 to $35.

But once again, Latah Creek Winery isn’t just about the wine (though isn’t that enough?). They are about the experience you have at their winery and with their staff as well. They are family-owned and operated, and often times you’ll find yourself chatting with the owners over your glass of wine. Ellena will tell you the best food pairings for each wine you try, and share some recipes with you (she has a cookbook available for sale in the gift shop). If you attend an event (either as a member for their special member nights, or during one of their special sales) you’ll get to sample some of Ellena’s delicious meals, while listening to live music and drinking fantastic wine. If you sign up for the email newsletter list, you’ll get friendly updates on events at the winery, new wines incoming and classics going out, and messages from the Latah Creek family expressing their gratitude for the customers who have kept their business growing over the years.

These days you can find wine just about anywhere. Good wine. Bad wine. Wine in-between. But when you are looking for delicious wine at affordable prices paired with a fun and welcoming experience, Latah Creek Winery is where you will find it.
