A Holiday Tradition at SCRAPS

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like the sound of carols playing, presents under the tree and a visit from the kids at Pioneer School.

For the past 16 years, students in Ms. Davis’ room have brought treats, toys and food to the animals at SCRAPS during December.  This year they will arrive on Monday, December 18th at 1 p.m.

“You would think that just once since 2001 they would have had a schedule conflict or been busy,” said Janet Dixon, Special Programs Manager at SCRAPS.  “But just like Santa, they’ve never missed a delivery. “

Students who first came to SCRAPS, which was located at the old SCRAPS shelter out on Flora Road until 2014, would be in their early twenties now.

“It’s interesting to think that one of the kids that came here nearly two decades ago and donated a cat toy or can of dog food has maybe come back and adopted an animal from us,” said Dixon.  “We’d really like to ask former Pioneer School students to go on our Facebook page and share their story of coming to SCRAPS.”

SCRAPS relies on public donations to help feed the animals at the facility and the generosity of these students has helped thousands of animals throughout the years.

To make a donation, you can bring in your gift in anytime during business hours.  SCRAPS is particularly in need of clay, non-clumping cat litter.
