Hey there folks. It’s been awhile.
A long while.
A heckuva long while.
I didn’t even realize just how long it had been until I was looking over my editorial calendar and realized I hadn’t posted anything in this series in MONTHS.
Yep. Months. (Two to be exact.)
I’m thoroughly shocked and appalled with myself. And eager to correct this long lapse in posts.
I’ll start off with what I’ve been up to the last few weeks and then we can move on and pretend this most recent horrible unplanned hiatus from Adventures in Spokane never happened.
Cool? Cool.
Honestly I haven’t been up to much in the last couple of months. I had several wild and crazy weekends in Seattle for Sakuracon and Emerald City Comicon (insert shameless plug to read my MiaCon coverage here) but around Spokane I took it easy.
I had a couple of lunches at Gordy’s Sichuan Cafe. They were amazing, by the way. That is one restaurant that has really earned it’s “Best Asian Food” from the Inlander multiple years in a row. If you stop in sometime soon (and you really, really should), be sure to try the smoked pork noodle dish. It is absolutely delicious and delightful.
While I was taking the mellow way out with my social calendar, I did manage three pretty good “nights out” during April. First up was a playdate with my dearest darling nephew. He’s seven and had never seen a Star Wars movie before. And since I was still on my Star Wars: The Force Awakens super binge of 2016, I took him to see it while it was playing at The Garland.
Well we stopped in at Taco Time for food first. It was Taco Tuesday, after all, and Taco Tuesday cannot be ignored.
Both the tacos and the film were excellent. And I’m tickled pink that I got to share my nephew’s first big screen Star Wars experience with him (I’m a nerd, that’s the kinda thing that warms the cockles of my heart).
Next up I went for the more grown-up approach and attended the annual SCRAPS auction to raise money for the SCRAPS Hope Foundation. My digital media team peeps were also in attendance and Lil’Sis came along as my plus one.
It was a heck of a swanky night.
Dinner and drinks at Red Lion Inn at the Park (not to be confused with the OTHER Red Lion Inn, which Lil’Sis and I wandered around for awhile before realizing we were at the wrong place). Silent Auction items that included console TVs repurposed as cat beds, gift baskets of wine, and (nearly) life-size Chinese lantern elephants. And Live Auction goodies ranging from cooking classes to ‘man cave’ accessories to decadent sweets. It was a fabulous shindig that raised a lot of money and awareness for a very worthy cause and was definitely a highlight of the spring.
My third night out borrowed a bit from my playdate with the kiddo and a bit from my night out with the grown-ups. I had a Girl’s Evening with two lovely friends that began at Sushi.com for dinner (the tamago was divine and the chicken katsu savory and delicious), then bounced over to Shari’s for dessert (chocolate creme pie for the win), and ended at Northtown Mall where we tried on sparkly tiaras, danced to some peppy pop songs, and discussed our chances of survival if the apocalypse hit while we were hanging out in Barnes and Noble (consensus = the food in the snack bar would probably run out within a day or so, so we’d have to eat other survivors). It was a good way to finish up a month where not a lot happened but the stuff that did happen was pretty great.
And on that note (we’ll cue the music) and we’ll wrap up this not-exactly-thrilling but still hopefully entertaining edition of Adventures in Spokane. I’ll be back in a week or so (I know, promises promises) to talk about wine weekends, comic cons, and whatever else strikes my fancy. If you want to pass the time until I return you can head out for some adventures of your own.
