7 Things to Do in Spokane This St Patrick’s Day!

st-paddy-300x250Whether you want to watch a parade, eat a traditional meal, tour a beautiful building, or see an original play, there are lots of activities and events you can attend in the Spokane area to celebrate St Patrick’s Day this year. Just throw on some green clothing, brush up on your Irish cheers, and head out to see what the city has to offer!

St John’s Cathedral Tour, Saturday 3/12, 11a-2pm (St John’s Cathedral) –
Tour the English Gothic Revival cathedral (designed by Harold C Whitehouse of Spokane) and learn about its unique Medieval-style French stained-glass, 49-bell carillon, and 4100+ pipe organ. Admission is free to attend a tour.

End of the Rainbow play, Saturday 3/12, 2p and 4p (Regional Theatre of the Palouse) –
This original St Patrick’s Day play, based on an Irish folk tale, will be performed by children from the RTOP workshop. Contact the box office to purchase tickets.

11th Annual Irish Drinking Team Pub Crawl, Saturday 3/12, starts 7am (nYne Bar/Bistro) –
Arrive at 7am to nYne for breakfast and to buy a team shirt ($15), then spend the day going from bar to bar on the list where you can have drinks, pick up prizes, and find specials on food and beverages. This year Fast Eddie’s, Borracho’s, Lion’s Lair, Crave, Lucky’s, Red Room, The Pin, Monteray Café, and Orlison’s Brewing Co are included in the crawl.

Spokane St Patrick’s Day Parade, Saturday 3/12, 12p –
The Friendly Sons of St Patrick are putting on their annual (since 1978) parade through downtown Spokane on Saturday. The route starts on Dean, runs down Washington through Riverfront Park, turns on Riverside, takes a jaunt down Stevens, picks up on Spokane Falls Boulevard, and finishes up on Post near City Hall.

St Patrick’s Day Dinner, Thursday 3/17, 2-9p (Republic Brewing Co) –
Make reservations now to attend a catered traditional Irish dinner at Republic Brewing Co on March 17th. Food from Freckles’ Gourmet BBQ will pair perfectly with a variety of Irish beers brewed especially for the occasion.

Cooking Class: Guinness Beef Stew, Thursday 3/17, 6-8p (Gourmey Way) –
Want to learn how to make your own traditional Irish dinner? Learn to make Guinness braised beef stew with soda bread at Gourmet Way in Hayden. Chef Janet Campbell will lead the class, which costs $40 to attend.

St Paddy’s in Palouse, Thursday 3/17, 6-8p (Palouse Community Center) –
This annual celebration will include Paul Smith playing fiddle music, Irish dancers, and special guests. There will also be snacks like soda bread and Cougar Gold cheese, as well as a no-host beer and wine bar. Admission is $10 for adults and free for kiddos under 10 years old.
