SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Valley City Council Member Al Merkel, has announced his candidacy for the Washington State Senate, representing the 4th District.

In a statement he outlined that as a State Senator he would focus on three major issues he sees in the community being public safety, growth management act reform and education.

He also emphasized his track record in various areas, including supporting public safety measures and noted his commitment to conservative values, including financial stability and low taxation as well.

“Together, we can leverage our shared values to serve as a model for what Washington can be. I am excited to embark on this journey and humbly ask for your support as we strive to build a better tomorrow for our state.” said Merkel.

Mike Kelly also is running for the seat and was recently endorsed by current State Senator Mike Padden.

This following closely after Padden’s announcement of retirement and decision not to seek re-election in early April.
