BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons has recalled 12 types of ReadyMeals and store-made deli items due to contamination that can cause stillbirths and fatal side effects.
According to Albertsons, they are recalling after Fresh Creative Foods, a division of Reser’s Fine Foods, found Listeria monocytogenes, a foodborne illness caused by bacteria, in a ready-to-eat chicken ingredient during a routine test by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Ready Meals products, including their Street Tacos Chicken SS Cold, Street Taco Meal CKN Asada SS Cold and Enchilada Chicken Green Chili SS Cold, have been recalled. The official release has the complete list of recalled foods. Those who have purchased these products should not eat the food and instead throw it away or return it to their local store. If you have consumed any of these products, tell your healthcare provider.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe to fatal infections in young children and those at high health risk. Symptoms of the bacteria include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. According to the release from Albertsons, an infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
