MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – The Gray Road Fire that devastated Medical Lake in August 2023 is still burning The state is considering how to address the underground trash fire.
The Washington Department of Ecology and Department of Social and Health Services are currently drafting plans to put out the fire and evaluate whether the landfill contaminated the soil and groundwater.
Public comment on the proposed cleanup plan for the fire is open to Spokane County residents.
While events have allowed Medical Lake to look toward the future, the small blaze near Eastern State Hospital continues to create challenges for environmental regulators and firefighters.
