DOUGLAS COUNTY, Wash. – The Douglas County Fire Department (DCFD) was conducting an annual pump test on their equipment when they discovered a crucial failure.
A mechanical failure with the departments main water pump failed leaving the engine out of service for an indefinite amount of time.
The station is grateful for these annual checks and how they prevent possible dangerous situations.
“Fortunately, this incident occurred at the station during a testing operation. This failure could have been devastating if it had occurred on an emergency scene, where people’s lives could have been jeopardized.” said DCFD.
The cause of the failure will not be determined until the pump is removed and examined for repair, but the fire department said it could be due to the age of the engine.
While repairs are being made the departments reserve engines will be used ensuring no emergency responses are compromised.
