SPOKANE, Wash. – Local, state and national leaders have offered statements on the importance of National Arab American Heritage Month, which takes place over April.
The Spokane Public Library highlighted a collection of films by Arab Americans to celebrate the month.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted the month and argued that it is particularly important this year.
“This year, we mark National Arab American Heritage Month at a time of immense pain. More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, many of them civilians, including thousands of children,” Blinken said.
The US State Department was criticized by employees in Nov. 2023 who argued that the US is complicit in war crimes against the Palestinian people.
“Members of the White House…displayed a clear disregard for the lives of Palestinians, a documented unwillingness to de-escalate, and, even prior to October 7, a reckless lack of strategic foresight,” employees said according to Axios.
National Arab American Awareness Month was created by the Arab America Foundation in 2017 and is celebrated annually.
