Arizona authorities are investigating theft of device that allows access to vote tabulators

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities are investigating whether a 27-year-old temporary election worker had political motivations when he stole a fob that allows access to vote tabulators in Arizona’s largest county. Walter Ringfield was arrested last week after elections officials in Maricopa County realized one of the black fobs was missing. During a news conference Tuesday, the sheriff’s department said security footage showed Ringfield taking it. He was one of thousands of temporary workers hired by the elections office ahead of the July 30 primary. Maricopa County has been the target of conspiracy theorists since former President Donald Trump lost it in 2020.
