POST FALLS, Idaho — The Post Falls North Channel Dam will undergo a multi-year rehabilitation project, closing portions of Falls Park.
Avista announced on Tuesday that crews recently started the project, which is expected to be completed in 2027. Avista will repair and replace the Dam’s concrete structure, steel spillway gates and gate hoists, and upgrade electrical and control systems.
The Falls Park parking lot will be closed starting May 1 as a staging area for construction-site materials, equipment and vehicles. Avista said the parking lot will be reopened when the project is complete. Other sections of the park, including the boardwalk and one dam overlook, will also be closed.
Most pedestrian trails, the restroom, the fishing pond and the playground will remain open. Avista said the pond will continue to be stocked for fishing.
Most of the other pedestrian trails throughout the park will remain open to the public, as well as the restroom, fishing pond, and playground. The pond will also continue to be stocked for fishing.
Avista will install construction and directional signs throughout the park to guide visitors.
“For everyone’s safety, it is critical to comply with construction signs and stay out of fenced construction areas. Once the new spillway gates are in service, Falls Park will be restored to pre-existing or better condition,” Avista said.
Avista said they do not anticipate water levels at Coeur d’Alene Lake will be impacted by this project.
