PULLMAN, Wash. – Beloved honorary WSU mascot Dash Dog died after a battle with cancer on Monday.

The golden retriever received surgery to remove a cancerous tumor at WSU’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital on April 16.

Ande Edlund, Dash’s owner, shared a reflection on his dog’s impact on the community in a social media post on Tuesday.

“We were devoted to each other for 13 amazing years. It was an honor to be his protector & caretaker. My heart is also bursting because I know how much Dash meant to so many others. If you ever met Dash, you know how special he was,” Edlund said.

Dash Dog has been a fixture of WSU’s fan culture for years. Edlund invited those who met and took pictures with Dash to share their memories of meeting him.

It is clear that although Dash has passed, he continues to make a major impact on the Cougar community.
