Benewah County sheriff’s serve search warrant leading to shooting, 1 man dead

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man is dead after the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) attempted to serve a search warrant, and the suspect turned the gun on himself.

According to BCSO, deputies responded to a home on Station Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. to serve the warrant. BCSO said when deputies made their way to the back of the house, they heard a gunshot.

BCSO confirmed an officer fired their weapon, fearing they were being shot at. Deputies continued to the back of the house, where they found 33-year-old Joseph Arnold dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Idaho State Police is investigating this incident.
