Body of Idaho woman found alongside car in Big Salmon River

IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho – The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the car and body of an Idaho woman from the Big Salmon River, who had been missing since May.

According to Idaho County deputies, Marsha Hayes, the missing woman, was last seen on May 22 driving northbound on Highway 95 toward Riggins with her service dog. A few days later, authorities located car parts and confirmed that the license plate found in the river belonged to Hayes.

Deputies requested assistance from a member of the United Search Corp, a nonprofit organization based in Oregon, to search the Big Salmon River. Using scanning sonar, a jet boat and underwater cameras, the team located Hayes’ car in the river. Deputies arrived on the scene and successfully recovered Hayes’ car and body on June 28.

“We are truly sorry for the Hayes family’s loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Marsha’s family and friends as they navigate this difficult time.,” said the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.
