Boeing at fault for door plug flying off plane causing emergency landing

SEATTLE, Wash. – Boeing is said to be at fault for the door plug flying off their plane mid-flight causing an emergency landing. Boeing CEO David Calhoun told NBC news Wednesday passengers should feel safe flying in the planes his company manufactures.

Calhoun flew to the east coast for a meeting with senators about what happened on that flight in Portland with the Max-9.

During those conversations, Calhoun deflected a question on reports that Boeing re-installed the door plugs. Instead, he referred them to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Reuters is reporting two senators in those meetings said Calhoun provided no answer as to what caused the mid-air emergency and that congressional oversight will be needed.

Washington State Senator Maria Cantwell sent a statement to NonStop Local referencing the claims and saying Boeing is responsible for the incident in Portland. Cantwell said in part quote:

“Recent reporting by the Seattle Times and other outlets underscores the urgency of the situation. I will be holding hearings to investigate the root causes of these safety lapses.”

The NTSB is planning to travel to Boeing’s factory in western Washington on Friday.

Right now the Max-9 is grounded with no clear answer as to when they will be back up and running.
