BONNER COUNTY, Idaho – Bonner County is taking steps to ensure its emergency services remain operational despite financial challenges.
This week, the Bonner County Commissioners passed a resolution to apply for a $2 million tax anticipation loan for Bonner County EMS.
The commissioners learned on Thursday that funds were running low. The financial issue has been known since September of the previous year.
During a special meeting on Thursday, it was revealed that the department has struggled with cash reserves since moving into a new building.
In addition to the loan, the county has planned weekly meetings involving the treasurer, clerk’s office, county commissioners, and EMS. These meetings will include public participation to ensure transparency and community involvement.
The commissioners also mentioned potential layoffs might be discussed in late December, highlighting the ongoing financial concerns facing the department.
