BONNERS FERRY, Idaho – A local woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her role in a fentanyl overdose death at the Boundary County Jail. The incident occurred in 2022 when a woman died from a fentanyl overdose.
Investigators revealed that 46-year-old Twyla Don Basil smuggled fentanyl into the jail.
The U.S. Attorney stated that this incident happened just a day after Basil was arrested for driving under the influence of fentanyl.
“We have re-doubled our efforts to train law enforcement to help us investigate and prosecute fentanyl deaths. While we are seeing some signs of progress, we will continue the battle against fentanyl for as long as it takes,” said U.S. Attorney Hurwit.
