Boulevard Race 2024: What to expect from Spokane’s premier 4-mile event

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Boulevard Race kicks off its second year with a 10-day countdown.

According to a press release, this year’s race, known for its vibrant course entertainment and community spirit, is set to offer “The Most Fun You Will Ever Have Over 4 Miles.”

The course will feature a variety of attractions, including 10 DJs, with a special DJ Alley. The second Harvest Dollar Drop, encouraging participants to contribute to those in need. There will also be DJ Donuts with fresh treats, a Frozen Zone with Powerade Slush pops and three Scream Tunnels with enthusiastic local high school students cheering on runners. Additionally, the course loops back to allow participants to support one another.

The press release added that runners can look forward to race day swag, including over 4,000 Mardi Gras bead necklaces from Lululemon. A crowd sing-along to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” will set the tone before the race begins, which will be signaled by a cannon. The race will honor two young cancer survivors in a special bell-ringing ceremony, reflecting its support for childhood cancer awareness.

This year’s route winds through Spokane’s University District, featuring scenic highlights like tree-lined boulevards and historic landmarks. Post-race festivities include a Michelob Ultra Beer Garden and a diverse food court.

Race registration remains open at www.boulevardrace.com for $30, with about 3,000 participants expected. This year’s event also highlights the I AM. wall, a tribute to the fight against cancer, and will honor Coach Mike Hadway, who survived a cardiac arrest with the help of his team, and the memory of Charlie Reed, an avid runner and tree enthusiast.

Elite runners like defending champion James Ngandu and PRRO road race champion Sarah Naibei will compete for top honors.
