Burn restrictions go into effect in Spokane County

SPOKANE, Wash. – A burn restriction will be enacted in Spokane County starting Tuesday. All unauthorized open burns and recreational fires will be banned until it is lifted.

The county cited air quality concerns as the main reason for the restriction.

“Breathing smoke affects the respiratory system and is especially harmful to everyone and most especially, younger, and elderly generations, and those with heart and respiratory conditions,” the county said.

Unauthorized burning during a county-wide burn restriction is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and 90 days in prison.
