AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – A man suspected of identity theft and for stealing a car was arrested in Airway Heights after a SWAT standoff Thursday night.
According to the Airway Heights Police Department, the situation began at around 6:30 am Thursday morning when a suspicious circumstances call was made to police regarding an empty house on South Lyons Road.
The department says that when officers arrived on scene they removed two people squatting at the property and recovered a stolen vehicle.
At about 2:30 pm Thursday, a second call was made to police saying that a woman had entered the empty residence. When a woman and man were detained and questioned by Airway Heights police, they determined that a third person was still in the house and was a likely suspect in the earlier vehicle theft case.
The suspect refused to leave the home and Spokane SWAT ultimately assisted Airway Heights police in arresting him.
According to the department, the man had escaped Department of Corrections community custody for an identity theft charge. He was booked into Spokane County Jail according to the Airway Heights Police Department, though his name has yet to be shared by law enforcement.
