ST. MARIES, Idaho — The cause of the fire that was released.

The Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed that a washing machine on the second floor of the building failed, causing the devastating blaze.

The fire started around 3 a.m. on May 17, completely destroying Big Eddy’s Bar & Grill.

The restaurant owner, Michael Harter, said he was sleeping in the other room when he woke up to the smell of smoke. He opened the door, and things quickly got out of hand.

Harter said he has plans to rebuild The Big Eddy as soon as possible.

“Rebuilding The Big Eddy, I’m looking forward to putting some new timber back in the air there,” Harter said.
