CDC reports of first case of E. coli in Washington

SPOKANE, Wash. – The CDC has released a report showing the number of cases of E. coli that are believed to have stemmed from McDonald’s food. Washington is on the map with its first confirmed case stemming from this issue.

“This is a fast-moving outbreak investigation. Most sick people are reporting eating Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald’s and investigators are working quickly to confirm which food ingredient is contaminated.” the CDC said.

Maps show that there is only one confirmed case in Washington, but the total number is likely higher. The total number of confirmed cases has reached 75.

“This outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses, and the true number of sick people is likely much higher than the number reported. This is because many people recover without medical care and are not tested for E. coli.” the CDC said.

Common symptoms of E. coli can include stomach cramping, pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

There have been no confirmed cases in Idaho but residents who feel they might be sick are encouraged to go get tested. Montana has the second highest confirmed cases for the nation standing at 13.

The CDC did not provided information on what county or city that case was confirmed in.

McDonald’s has since pulled many ingredients from their stores that are believed to be linked to the outbreak.
