CHENEY, Wash. — The Cheney Education Association (CEA) and C , leading to a ratification meeting held today at 1 p.m. at Cheney High School. During the meeting, members reviewed the details of the agreement and voted to ratify the new contract.
According to a CEA spokesperson, the contract received 94% approval. The agreement follows the district’s push for competitive pay to attract and retain top teachers and maintain consistency across Cheney public schools. The Cheney and district bargaining teams collaborated to craft a deal that prioritizes both students and teachers while ensuring a balanced budget for the school year.
“This has been a stressful several weeks,” said Cheney EA President Meridth Lemelin. “We are glad we could come together in the end with the school district to truly prioritize the needs of Cheney teachers and students.”
CEA representatives expressed their satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting the efforts of both bargaining teams in achieving a mutually beneficial outcome.
“I appreciate how hard both bargaining teams have worked on getting us a tentative agreement,” said Katherine Potter, a middle school art teacher. “None of us wanted to walk the strike line. We want to be where our hearts are, in our classrooms with our students. This agreement allows us to do that.”
The tentative agreement now awaits approval from the Cheney School Board to become final.
