Cheney-Spokane Road paving: Full reopening on Oct. 18 amid closures

CHENEY, Wash. — Cheney-Spokane Road is set to undergo final paving in the coming days, with a full reopening planned for Oct. 18.

According to the City of Spokane this work is part of the Marshall Road Water Transmission Main project, which aims to improve water capacity in the Latah Valley area.

The city said that starting Oct. 11, drivers can expect intermittent access disruptions between the southern end of the retail area and South Cedar Road. Here’s what to know about the upcoming schedule:

Friday, Oct. 11:

– 7-9 a.m.: Expect one lane open with flaggers between the retail area and South Qualchan Road.

– 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: The road will close between the retail area and Qualchan Drive, but it will reopen for one lane of traffic in each direction at 4 p.m.

– Access to businesses from the Cheney-Spokane Road interchange will remain open.

Saturday, Oct. 12:

– The closure will continue from the retail area to South Cedar Road, affecting access to Qualchan Drive.

– The road will reopen between the retail area and Qualchan Drive around 4 p.m., allowing one lane in each direction.

Sunday, Oct. 13:

– One lane will remain open between the retail area and Qualchan Drive, with continued closure from Qualchan Drive to South Cedar Road.

Monday, Oct. 14:

– One lane will be open between the retail area and Qualchan Drive, while the closure persists to South Cedar Road.

– WSDOT will be paving at the US 195 and Meadow Lane Road intersection.

Tuesday, Oct. 15:

– 7-9 a.m.: Flaggers will manage one lane between the retail area and Qualchan Drive.

– After 9 a.m., the road will be completely closed from just south of the retail area to South Cedar Road.

Wednesday, Oct. 16:

– The complete closure will continue from the retail area to South Cedar Road.

Thursday, Oct. 17:

– Cheney-Spokane Road will reopen between the retail area and Qualchan Drive, but it will still be closed between Qualchan Drive and South Cedar Road.

Friday, Oct. 18:

– The road will fully reopen from the retail area to South Cedar Road, and lane and speed reductions at the Meadow Lane Road intersection will be lifted.

Throughout this process, businesses in the area will remain open and accessible via the Cheney-Spokane Road interchange. Detours will be in place, and alternate routes are available for residents in affected neighborhoods like Eagle Ridge and Qualchan.
