Chewelah School District threat that shut down school for a day found to be a ‘misunderstanding’

CHEWELAH, Wash. – The Chewelah Police Department investigated a threat that finding that ‘there was no actual threat.’

Stevens County Dispatchers received a call from someone saying they saw a Tik Tok that said there would be a school shooting at Jenkins High School.

The person reported the Tik Tok had surfaced the app 7 hours before their call, and they did not know the person who posted the video.

Chewelah Police Department contacted the school district and made a decision to quickly cancel school for the day.

Police then conducted an interview with the caller who could not save the post but indicated that the video said something to the effect of “next target will be Chewelah School District.”

In a follow-up investigation it was found that video was most likely discussing threat assessment for area schools and the likelihood of one of them experiencing one.

The Chewelah Police Department stated, ‘there was no actual threat indicated and it appears this was a misunderstanding.’

School resumed to normal activity on Wednesday.
