SPOKANE, Wash. – A church was vandalized in Spokane’s South Hill area on Sunday morning.
A church in Spokane’s South Hill area was vandalized when the digital sign at Plymouth Congregational Church, which displayed the message “We Stand With Israel,” and the Star of David was spray-painted with the word “genocide.”
NonStop Local has reached out to police for comment but hasn’t yet received a response.
Spokane City Councilmember Jonathan Bingle issued a statement to NonStop Local, saying:
“This is a blatant attack not just on a house of worship but on the freedoms of speech, religion, and expression that are the cornerstone of our nation,” Bingle said. “The people of Spokane will not tolerate hateful and cowardly attempts to intimidate those who stand for their values and principles.”
“This isn’t the first time Plymouth Congregational Church has been targeted for standing on principle,” Bingle continued. “These repeated attacks demonstrate the urgent need for leaders to defend the rights of churches and individuals to express their beliefs without fear of harassment or violence.”
Councilmember Bingle urged local law enforcement and city leadership to act decisively to hold the perpetrators accountable and ensure that houses of worship and their members feel safe in expressing their beliefs.
The church was vandalized earlier this year.
