City of Mattawa issues boil water advisory for E. coli

MATTAWA, Wash. – A boil water advisory was put into effect in Mattawa on Fri., June 28 after the City detected E. coli in a sample of the water system.

According to the City, only properties connected to the City’s system are affected and residents with private wells are not affected.

Residents are urged to not use tap water without boiling it first. The City says to allow the water to come to a rolling boil for one minute before letting it cool for use.

No illnesses have been reported in the community. Along with boiling water, residents are asked to use bottled water for everyday activities.

The City says the entire water system is being disinfected with chlorine and will be flushed over the next few days. The boil water advisory is expected to last 48 to 72 hours.
