SPOKANE, Wash. – The Community Housing and Health Services held its third public meeting Monday night seeking community input on how to spend federal grant money from 2025 to 2029.
The consolidated plan is a five year plan the city creates to specifically allocate funds available to them. The city estimates $22 million to be available over the five year period to spend on housing and community development, according to the City of Spokane.
Heather Page works for the Community Housing and Health Services (CHHS) and said they have received similar feedback across the city when asking about the most important needs of the citizens.
“The Consolidated plan actually outlines exactly how we will spend that money over the five years of that consolidated plan, I mean it’s a nice chunk of money. We wanna know how to spend it in a way that the community agrees with,” Page said.
The city will collect input for another month before drafting their plan and presenting it for public comment in February. Public services were the second most important topic at Monday nights meeting behind Multi family housing.
“Rise in incomes are outpaced by rise in rents, and the impact that is having on the renter themselves,” Page said.
There is an online affordable housing meeting Tuesday night, the link to the city’s community needs survey can be found here.
