Clarkston parent carrying gun leads to temporary elementary school lockdown

CLARKSTON, Wash. – Wednesday morning, a parent was seen carrying a gun while dropping off their child near Highland Elementary, leading to a brief lockdown.

Law enforcement was contacted immediately, and an officer arrived at the scene. The parent was found across the street from school property, which is within legal limits for carrying a firearm.

Highland Elementary went into a temporary lockdown for around five minutes around 8:15 a.m. as a precautionary measure.

The School Resource Officer spoke with the parent, addressing the seriousness of the situation. The parent was cooperative and understood the concerns raised.

According to school officials, at no time was the safety of students or staff at risk. The Clarkston School District will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure the security of the school community.
