COEUR D’ ALENE, Idaho – A Coeur d’Alene man was sentenced to prison after he raped a teen while he was on probation from past convictions.
According to the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office, Joshua Nikoley, 36 between February and September of 2022 had sexual contact and intercourse with a minor child, between 16 and 17 years of age. According to the office, he was acquitted of an attempted strangulation count that stemmed from allegations that he repeatedly choked the teen during the sexual abuse. Following the trial, Nikoley admitted to a persistent violator enhancement as he had previously been convicted of three prior felony offenses.
Nikoley was convicted of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual battery of a minor and was sentenced to 25 years in prison with parole eligibility after five years.
The office said that Nikoley’s criminal history includes convictions for possession of a controlled substance, theft, reckless driving, exhibition of a deadly weapon, and prohibited possession of ammunition. Most recently, Nikoley was convicted of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in 2021 and was on probation at the time the sexual abuse occurred.
