Coeur d’Alene Police investigate school shooting threat by student

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is investigating threats made by a student to shoot up Lakes Middle School.

According to a spokesperson from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, at around 3 p.m. today, officers were alerted that a 14-year-old student at Lakes Middle School had threatened to “shoot up the school” tomorrow. Police said they quickly began an investigation, contacting the student and his parents at their home.

Police said that the student has been suspended from school, and measures have been taken to prevent his return until the investigation is complete. Authorities said they do not believe the student has access to firearms, according to information from his parents. They also do not consider there to be an active threat to students or staff at Lakes Middle School at this time.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department emphasizes that threats of this nature will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate criminal charges will be pursued. The department encourages anyone who hears of threats to contact them immediately.
