COLFAX, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man Friday after he stole a generator from a home in Colfax.
According to the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a burglary report at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday in the 1600 block of North Cedar Street. A neighbor told deputies they had confronted a man wearing a mask who was pulling a generator through the grass near the home. Deputies later identified the suspect as Hunter Grant, 25, who had broken into an unattached garage and stolen the generator.
The suspect loaded the generator into the trunk of his car and drove eastbound on Cedar Street. The neighbor was able to capture a photo of the car’s license plate, but deputies were initially unable to locate the suspect.
Using a Flock license plate recognition camera system, deputies said that they were able to identify the vehicle and its owner. With the help of the Moses Lake Police Department, they tracked Grant to Moses Lake, where he was arrested.
Grant was booked into the Whitman County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree theft. He is scheduled for his first court appearance in Whitman County Superior Court on Monday.
Deputies said they also recovered the stolen generator at a home in Colfax and returned it to the victim.
